Bajaj Prepares to launch its first ethanol-powered motorcycle
Bajaj Auto is set to launch an ethanol-powered motorcycle in India this September, following the recent release of its CNG motorcycle. The new model is likely a variant of an existing bike, possibly the Pulsar, allowing Bajaj to capitalize on a strong brand while minimizing development costs. Ethanol motorcycles offer lower operating costs, but challenges like increased wear on engine components need to be addressed.
Sustainable mobility solutions can take various forms and don’t necessarily have to rely solely on electric engines. Bajaj Auto is demonstrating this by opting for ethanol after recently launching the world’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) motorcycle.
According to the website BikeWale, the Indian manufacturer is expected to unveil this new ethanol motorcycle in September, with the production model anticipated to launch in India later this year.
It’s possible that this won’t be an entirely new motorcycle but rather a variant of an existing model, with the Pulsar being an ideal candidate. This approach would allow Bajaj to save on development costs while leveraging an already strong brand in the market.
There are still few motorcycles powered entirely by ethanol-based fuels, despite their lower operating costs. However, there are drawbacks, such as the increased wear on components caused by ethanol, which poses a challenge in engine development.
