Bangladesh approaches Pakistan to import 15,000 metric tonnes of sugar on G2G basis: Report

Bangladesh is interested in importing up to 15,000 metric tonnes of sugar from Pakistan on a Government-to-Government (G2G) basis to address a supply shortage. The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has contacted Pakistani authorities and specified quality requirements, including an ICUMSA rating not exceeding 45. Bangladesh previously imported 25,000 metric tonnes from Pakistan through the private sector. TCB has requested a price offer on a Cost and Freight (CFR) basis to Chattogram port before making a final decision.

Bangladesh has shown interest in importing up to 15,000 metric tonnes of sugar from Pakistan on a Government-to-Government (G2G) basis to address a domestic shortage.

Ministry of Commerce, Bangladesh is currently facing a sugar supply shortage and has turned to Pakistan to meet its import needs. In December of last year, Bangladesh had already imported around 25,000 metric tonnes of sugar from Pakistan through the private sector to meet its domestic consumption requirements, reported Business Recorder citing sources.

Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has recently reached out to Pakistani authorities, expressing interest in importing sugar on a G2G basis to meet domestic demand, media report further added.

TCB has outlined specific requirements for the sugar, including a preference for fine to medium, clean and dry sugar with an ICUMSA rating not exceeding 45. The sugar must also meet public health standards and be suitable for human consumption, TCB mentioned.

TCB has requested an “Offer Price” based on Cost and Freight (CFR) to Chattogram port in Bangladesh before making a final decision on the import.
