Bangladesh bids again for 50,000 tons rice, traders claim

Bangladesh’s state grain buyer has issued two international tenders for 50,000 metric tonnes of parboiled non-basmati rice each, with submission deadlines on November 3 and 6, 2018. Both shipments, in CIF terms to Chittagong or Mongla ports, must occur within 40 days. The move follows a 15% domestic rice price rise despite a bumper harvest.

On Wednesday, traders reported that Bangladesh’s state grain buyer had issued a new international tender for the purchase of 50,000 metric tonnes of rice.

The deadline to submit price offers is November 6, 2018.

Bangladesh has also released a separate tender for 50,000 tons rice, with price offers due on November 3.

In recent months, the Bangladeshi government issued a number of tenders for rice import purchases to increase supplies.

The domestic rice price in Bangladesh has risen by 15% over the last year, despite a bumper harvest. This leaves consumers in a difficult situation.

Both tenders seek offers of prices for non-basmati rice parboiled in CIF terms (which include ship unloading charges for the seller) for shipment to Chittagong or Mongla ports.

The rice must be shipped within 40 days of the contract award.
