Bangladesh govt approves proposal for procuring wheat on G2G basis

The Bangladesh government has approved, in principle, the procurement of wheat on a G2G basis under the Public Procurement Act 2006 and Rules 2008. Additionally, it decided to shorten the wheat import timeline via international tenders. The decision was made during the 15th Economic Affairs Committee meeting, chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on 20 May.

The government today approved a proposal in principle for procuring wheat on a G2G basis to meet the country’s growing demand following Section 68 (1) of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, and Section 76 (2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2008.

The government also decided in principle to reduce the timeframe of the wheat procurement process through international tender following Section 83 (1) (Ka) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2008.

The decision was made today (20 May) at the 15th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs held with Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, who is the chair of the Bangladesh Secretariat.
