Bangladesh: Police seize 431 sacks of smuggled sugar

Police in Sylhet, Bangladesh, arrested two individuals and seized a truck carrying 431 sacks of smuggled sugar, totaling 21,119 kg, from the Surma Gate Bypass Point area. The suspects, Md Shahid Ahmed and Imon Ahmed, hail from Jaintiapur upazila. The operation was conducted by the Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) during a checkpoint inspection.

Police arrested two individuals on Sunday and seized a truck loaded with 431 sacks of smuggled sugar from the Surma Gate Bypass Point area in Sylhet city, Bangladesh.

Around 5 pm, police set up a checkpoint in front of the Bonoful shop at the Surma Gate Bypass Point and confiscated the 431 sacks, which contained around 21,119 kg of smuggled sugar, said Mohammad Saiful Islam, Media Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), according to United News of Bangladesh.

The arrested individuals are Md Shahid Ahmed (26) from Fatehpur village and Imon Ahmed (18) from Bagherkhal village, both located in Jaintiapur upazila.
