Bangladesh, US sign MoU to import wheat

Bangladesh and the United States have signed a five-year MoU for annual imports of 700,000 metric tonnes of high-quality wheat at competitive prices. Officials said the deal will boost food security, nutrition, and bilateral trade cooperation. The signing took place at Bangladesh’s Ministry of Food with senior representatives present.
Bangladesh and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on wheat import to strengthen overall food security, nutritional standards, and ensure steady food supply.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder stated that the MoU would create broader avenues for mutual trust and trade cooperation between the two nations, ultimately benefiting the people of both countries.
Under the five-year agreement, Bangladesh will import 700,000 metric tonnes of high-quality wheat annually from the United States at competitive prices. On behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, the MoU was signed by Md Abul Hasanat Humayun Kabir, Director General of the Directorate General of Food, while Joseph K. Sowers, Vice President of the U.S. Wheat Associates, signed on behalf of the United States.
The MoU was signed during a modest ceremony held at the conference room of the Ministry of Food, chaired by Food Secretary Md Masudul Hasan. Present at the event were Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder, U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Tracey Ann Jacobson, the Commerce Secretary, and senior officials from both sides.
