Bangladesh : Wheat unloaded at Mongla Port for the first time


For the first time, a consignment of wheat from Argentina has been unloaded at Mongla Port, Bangladesh’s second-largest seaport. The vessel initially docked at Chittagong Port, unloading 30,120 tonnes before arriving at Mongla with the remaining 20,080 tonnes. After inspection, 13,080 tonnes will be stored at the port, while the rest will be distributed nationwide.
For the first time, a consignment of wheat imported from Argentina has been unloaded at Mongla, the country’s second-largest seaport, reports UNB.
According to Abdus Sobhan Sardar, Assistant Controller of the Mongla Food Controller Office, the vessel carrying 50,200 tonnes of wheat had initially docked at Chittagong Port.
There, 30,120 tonnes of wheat were unloaded, while the remaining quantity was scheduled for unloading at Mongla.
The vessel arrived at Mongla Port on Friday, and unloading activities commenced on Saturday afternoon following a physical test of the wheat, the official said.
Of the total unloaded wheat, 13,080 tonnes will be stored at the port, while the rest will be distributed to Barishal, Khulna, Rajbari and other regions across the country, he added.
