BHU prof to deliver talk at IRRI Philippines
Varanasi: The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Philippines has invited Prof Shravan Kumar Singh from BHU to deliver his talk in the ‘6th International Rice Congress ’ being held at Manila Philippines from October 16 to 19.
Prof Singh will deliver a talk on ‘Short duration high yielding rice varieties may revolutionize agriculture production in Eastern India’. The theme of the congress is ‘Accelerating transformation of Rice-Based food systems from Gene to Globe.’ Over 1,000 participants from around 65 countries are expected to take part in this Congress. Prof Singh said that rice is one of the world’s most important food crops and primary food source for more than half of the world’s population.
India is now world’s No 1 exporter of rice and exporting rice worth Rs 65,000 crore. India’s rice production is playing a crucial role in world’s food and nutritional security and helping to balance the global inflation.
