Bihar launches scheme to boost jaggery production

Bihar has launched a scheme to promote jaggery production by supporting sugarcane farmers and investors with 50% capital assistance. Online applications are open until 25 November 2025. Financial support ranges from ₹6 lakh to ₹1 crore based on unit capacity, aiming to boost rural industry, jobs, and farmers’ income.

Patna: The Bihar government has rolled out a new scheme to boost jaggery production in the state, offering financial assistance and incentives to sugarcane farmers and potential investors. Under the Bihar State Jaggery Industry Promotion Program, farmers and entrepreneurs can apply online to set up jaggery-making units. Applications are open until 25 November 2025.

The scheme offers financial support ranging from ₹6 lakh to ₹1 crore, depending on the cane-crushing capacity of the proposed unit. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to promote sugarcane cultivation and strengthen the local sugar-based economy.

Applications for the seventh phase can be submitted at the official website: ccs.bihar.gov.in.

The state will provide up to 50% of the capital required to set up jaggery units. The assistance is structured as follows:

Units with 5–20 tons/day capacity: up to ₹6 lakh

Units with 21–40 tons/day capacity: up to ₹15 lakh

Units with 41–60 tons/day capacity: up to ₹45 lakh

Units with more than 60 tons/day capacity: up to ₹1 crore

Eligible farmers and investors can apply online to start or expand their jaggery units.

The Sugarcane Industry Department has announced that applications for the seventh phase will close on 25 November 2025. Applicants may also reach out to their district sugarcane officer or assistant director for help.

The scheme aims to raise farmers’ income and encourage rural industries centred around sugarcane. It is expected to create jobs, support local economic growth and provide a significant boost to sugarcane farmers in Bihar.
