Patna: In a major step to support sugarcane farmers, the Bihar government has started clearing their pending dues of Rs 51.31 crore. On Friday, Sugarcane Industry Minister Krishnanandan Paswan launched the payment process for farmers associated with the Riga sugar mill. He personally handed over cheques to 26 farmers and assured that the remaining payments would be directly transferred to the bank accounts of other farmers soon.
“The government is committed to solving your issues and improving your income. This is just the beginning,” the minister told the farmers.
Encouraging them to increase sugarcane production, he said a one-day farmers’ meeting will soon be held in Sheohar district. The event will focus on informing farmers about various state schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Ganna Vikas Yojana and the Krishi Mechanisation Yojana, aimed at helping them boost production and income.
Member of Parliament Lovely Anand, who was also present, said the payments had brought much-needed relief to the farmers. “This money has brought back hope and smiles to farmers who have been struggling,” she said. “Once the Riga sugar mill is running at full capacity, they will gain even more.”
