Brazil: Be8 starts construction of ethanol plant
Be8 has begun constructing a new ethanol plant in Passo Fundo, Brazil, with operations slated to start in 2026. The plant, with a capacity of 220 million liters annually, will produce anhydrous and hydrated ethanol. Funded by R$ 729.7 million from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development, it will use wheat and triticale as raw materials. The facility will also process bran and vital gluten, generate electricity from biomass cogeneration, and recycle liquid effluents for steam. Covering 40 hectares, it adds to Be8’s portfolio, which includes biodiesel, green diesel, and other sustainable fuels.
Be8 began constructing its new ethanol plant in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on August 14, 2024, reported EPBR.
It would start working in 2026 with a capacity of 220 million liters a year, producing both anhydrous ethanol used in gasoline blends and hydrated ethanol being used as a fuel without additives.
Financed by R$ 729.7 million from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development, this plant materializes the insertion of wheat and triticale as new raw materials in ethanol production in the country. The unit will also process bran for animal consumption and vital gluten for human consumption. It will produce electricity for self-consumption due to biomass cogeneration; the surplus energy will be transferred to the local distribution network, and the liquid effluents reutilized for steam generation.
The area of the plant is about 40 hectares, wherein massive earthwork involves 1.5 million cubic meters of soil. This facility represents a powerful and important add-on to the portfolio of Be8, which already includes biodiesel, green diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, liquefied natural gas production, green hydrogen, and ammonia.
