Edible Oil News in English

Brazil has sharply reduced its soybean oil exports.

Brazil’s soybean oil exports plunged 41% in September–November to 153,000 tonnes, the lowest in years, due to rising domestic biodiesel demand after the B15 mandate. Full-year 2025 exports may still match last year at about 1.4 million tonnes, but higher blending targets could eventually halt exports altogether.

Brazil’s soybean oil exports fell by 41% in September-November of this year, reaching their lowest level in several years, at 153,000 tons, according to analysts at Oil World (Germany).

However, based on the results of 2025, the export of Brazilian soybean oil as a whole will be almost identical to the result of last year – 1.4 million tons against 1.37 million tons.

Shipments of the product are declining primarily due to increased domestic demand, in particular after the introduction of the B15 mandate in August, the agency notes.

At the same time, soybean oil production in Brazil will increase by only 0.4 million tons by the end of this year – to 11.73 million tons.

Total oil consumption in the country in 2025 is estimated at 10.5 million tons, 0.5 million tons more than last year. Of this volume, approximately 6.5 million tons are used for biodiesel production.

Analysts previously suggested that Brazil intends to completely cease exporting soybean oil in the coming years due to biodiesel production. By 2030, the share of biodiesel blending is expected to further increase  to 25%.
