BSF Meghalaya foils sugar smuggling attempt, apprehends four at East Khasi Hills district
BSF Meghalaya thwarted a smuggling attempt on Tuesday, arresting four Indian nationals near the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills. Acting on intelligence, BSF intercepted two trucks carrying sugar worth over ₹10 lakh. The goods and suspects were handed over to the Customs Office for further investigation. This follows a similar bust on November 25, 2024, where four vehicles loaded with sugar were seized.
The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya foiled a smuggling attempt on Tuesday, apprehending four Indian nationals near the international border in East Khasi Hills district, according to a press release from BSF Meghalaya.
Acting on specific intelligence, vigilant personnel from the 193 Battalion intercepted two heavy vehicles loaded with sugar worth over Rs10 lakh. The vehicles, bearing registration numbers ML 12 3843 and ML 05 AD 3614, were stopped near the Indo-Bangladesh international border in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. Four Indian nationals were apprehended in connection with the smuggling attempt, BSF Meghalaya stated.
The seized goods and the detained individuals were handed over to the Customs Office at Dangar for further investigation and legal action, the release added.
In a post on X, BSF Meghalaya stated, “In its continued efforts to contain smuggling along the Indo-BD border, troops of the 193 Battalion BSF Meghalaya apprehended four Indian nationals along with two trucks loaded with sugar worth Rs10 lakh under East Khasi Hills district. The goods were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.”
Also, on November 25, 2024, the vigilant troops of the 4th Battalion of BSF Meghalaya, acting on specific intelligence, thwarted a major sugar smuggling attempt in the East Khasi Hills district. The forces seized four vehicles loaded with sugar worth over ₹6 lakhs, preventing it from being smuggled across the international border.
