Byont secures major investment from Asterion to expand biogas production in Europe

Byont, a leading biogas producer in the Benelux region, has secured equity investment from Asterion Industrial Partners to expand biogas plants across Europe. This capital will enable Byont to acquire and upgrade combined heat and power (CHP) projects to produce biomethane or Bio-LNG. Byont recently acquired two large-scale CHP projects from Arbio BV and Biofer BV in Belgium, which will convert organic waste into energy, replacing 15 million cubic meters of natural gas and reducing carbon emissions by 50,000 tonnes annually.

Byont, a prominent biogas producer in the Benelux region, has secured a substantial equity investment from Asterion Industrial Partners aimed at expanding its biogas plants across Europe. Asterion, an independent investment management firm, specializes in European infrastructure and manages over €4 billion in assets, reported Bioenergy Insight.

This investment will enable Byont to acquire several combined heat and power (CHP) projects in Europe, which will be upgraded to produce biomethane or Bio-LNG. Along with this capital boost, Byont has announced the acquisition of its first two large-scale CHP projects from Arbio BV and Biofer BV, both of which will be enhanced to generate biomethane.

Asterion’s investment will also facilitate additional acquisition opportunities across the continent. Longspur Capital served as the sole financial advisor for both the capital raise and the acquisitions.

The newly acquired plants, located in Belgium, are designed to convert manure and other organic waste into valuable energy products, contributing to the decarbonization of the energy sector. Once upgraded, these facilities are expected to generate enough biomethane to replace approximately 15 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50,000 tonnes annually.

Roel Slotman and Jacco van de Velde, leaders at Byont, expressed their gratitude for Longspur’s support in successfully closing this transaction and emphasized their eagerness to collaborate with Asterion to accelerate the energy transition. They noted that Asterion’s expertise in sustainable infrastructure will greatly benefit their long-term objectives.

Bas Verloop and Michiel Klomp, partners at Longspur Capital, added that they were pleased to assist Byont in this significant transaction and thanked Asterion and their advisors for making the process smooth and positive. They highlighted the critical role of biogas in the future energy landscape and expressed anticipation for Byont’s continued success.
