Cambodian rice exports find new markets in 9 countries
Chan Sokheang, President of the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), announced that Cambodia’s rice exports are expanding to new markets, including nine additional countries and several islands, with a focus on fragrant rice. From January to August, exports included 140 tonnes to Japan, 350 tonnes to Latvia, and 2,135 tonnes to New Caledonia, among others. Cambodia exported 379,546 tonnes of rice valued at $280 million in the first seven months of the year. Fragrant rice made up 70.52% of the total exports.
The President of the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) Chan Sokheang, stated that this year, Cambodia’s rice exports will expand into new markets, including several islands and nine additional countries, with most buyers purchasing fragrant rice.
Chan Sokheang highlighted that from January to August this year, Cambodia expanded its fragrant rice exports to the following new markets: Japan,140 tonnes, Latvia, 350 tonnes, Lebanon, 22 tonnes, United Arab Emirates (UAE), 319 tonnes, Africa 52 tonnes, and the islands of Comoros, 25 tonnes of rice, Macau (China), 85 tonnes, New Caledonia, 2,135 tonnes and Martinique, 64 tonnes.
The president of the CRF confirmed that the volume of rice exports to these new markets is still small and primarily for testing. He hopes these markets will continue to import more rice, as Cambodia is known for its high-quality rice.
In the first seven months of this year, Cambodia exported 379,546 tonnes of rice to 64 target markets, valued at $280 million, facilitated by 53 rice exporters.
Of the rice exported, fragrant rice accounted for 70.52%, white rice 24.30%, parboiled rice 3.16%, organic rice 1.74%, and other varieties 0.28%. Fresh News
