Canada’s wheat planting area expanded by 1%


Canada’s wheat sowing area for the 2025 harvest has risen 1% year-on-year to 27.03 million hectares, per Statistics Canada. Durum wheat area increased by 2.6% to 6.53 million hectares, while winter wheat surged 18.2% to 1.58 million hectares. However, spring wheat declined slightly. Meanwhile, canola and barley sowings fell by 2.5% and 4%, respectively.
The area sown with wheat for the 2025 harvest in Canada was 27.03 million hectares, up 1% from last year, according to a report from Statistics Canada.
Spring soft wheat was sown on 18.81 million hectares (-0.7% compared to 2024), winter wheat – 1.58 (+18.2%). The area sown with durum was 6.53 million hectares (+2.6%).
Compared to last year, the area under canola decreased – 21.46 million hectares (-2.5%) and barley – 6.14 million hectares (-4%).
