Cane growers to protest against CM

Mysuru: Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association president Hallikerehundi Bhagaraj announced that farmers will hold a black flag protest against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa. The protest will occur during their visit to offer bagina at Kabini and KRS reservoirs. Farmers are demanding that the state government direct sugar mills to release pending incentives of Rs 150 per tonne of sugarcane and increase the fair and remunerative price to Rs 3,400 per tonne. Bhagaraj also accused sugar factories of cheating farmers in weight and measurement.

Mysuru: Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association president Hallikerehundi Bhagaraj on Thursday said farmers have decided to hold a black flag protest against chief minister Siddaramaiah and Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa during their visit to offer bagina at Kabini and KRS reservoirs. Speaking to reporters, he said state govt has failed to consider their demands, forcing them to take the protest route.The association has demanded that the state govt direct sugar mills to release pending additional incentives of Rs 150 per tonne of sugarcane supplied and an increase in fair and remunerative price to Rs 3,400 per tonne of sugarcane during this crushing season.
