Cane growersof Shamli not tocelebrate Diwali
Lucknow: Shamli cane growers on Friday threatened not to celebrate Diwali in protest against cane dues pending for few years.
The development came a day after BKU, RLD and SP leaders met the protesting farmers and extended their solidarity. The farmers have been staging protest for over two months at the Shamli Sugar factory to clear their dues amounting to over Rs 220 Crore.
RLD president Jayant Chaudhary said that the BJP government has failed on its promise of clearing cane payment within 14 days. As per the sugarcane act the government has to pay interest to farmers in case of delay but nothing has been done so far, he added.
SP leader and incharge of Kairana Lok Sabha Sudhir Panwar said that the double engine government is ignoring Shamli farmers out of political vendetta as the BJP lost all assembly seats in the district.
