Centre expedites new CCS and Nav Bharat Udyan projects
New Delhi: Expediting two more projects under the Central Vista revamp programme , the Centre has started preparation for the third Common Central Secretariat (CCS) building which will come up on the plot where the bungalow of the Vice President is located and has also floated a tender for carrying out civil works for ‘Nav Bharat Udyan’ along Yamuna.
For the construction of third CCS building along Kartavya Path, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has invited bids for carrying out the detailed soil investigation of the plot on Maulana Azad Road considering that the new VP House near the North Block will be ready in the next two months. Once the VP residence is shifted, CPWD will take up work for the CCS building, sources said.
Currently, one CCS building is under construction and financial bids for the second project were opened on Thursday. “The process has slowed down due to various reasons,” said a source.
Meanwhile, in its bid to fast-track Nav Bharat Udyan or New India Garden, a 30-acre campus of gardens, museum and public spaces along the Yamuna behind Purana Qila, CPWD has invited bids for the first phase of the project at Rs 35 crore.
Officials said the government is yet to finalise the “iconic structure” proposed in this garden, which will be the star attraction for visitors.
As per the tender document, the successful bidder for the first phase will have to complete construction of minor bridges over the existing drain, internal roads, surface parking, laying of foundation and stone-base pedestal, water supply and drainage, walkways and boundary walls in six months.
The garden was proposed as a part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Plan in 2019. But the project got delayed for several reasons. The garden will be located in a straight axis of Rashtrapati Bhawan and India Gate.
