Centre gives nod to export of 25,000 tonnes pharma grade sugar
The central government has approved annual exports of 25,000 metric tonnes of pharma grade sugar, or sucrose IP, limited to verified pharmaceutical exporters. Exporters must provide drug manufacturing licences and NABL-certified lab reports confirming purity standards. Pharma grade sugar, a sulphurless, highly refined sweetener, is vital in syrups, oral solutions, and other medical formulations.
The central government has approved exports of 25,000 MTs of pharmaceutical grade sugar–also known as pharma grade sugar–per financial year. This approval will only apply to verified pharma exporters, according to an official communication.
The approval is subject to the condition that the exporters mandatorily submit a valid drug manufacturing licence issued by the concerned state licensing authority.
They will also need to furnish test reports and certificates from NABL-accredited labs confirming compliance with pharma grade sugar specifications.
