Centre’s decision on MSP hike in a week, says Ajit Pawar
Kolhapur: Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has assured an increase in the minimum selling price (MSP) of sugar for farmers, said Deputy CM Ajit Pawar at an event in Chandgad tehsil. Pawar noted that while the fair and remunerative price for sugarcane has risen, the MSP has only increased once, impacting farmers’ earnings.
Kolhapur: Union cooperation minister Amit Shah has promised to increase the minimum selling price (MSP) of sugar for farmers’ benefit, said deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. He was speaking in Nesari in Chandgad tehsil of Kolhapur district at a Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin Yojana event on Friday.
Pawar said he spoke to Shah that fair and remunerative price, the amount paid by millers to sugar cane farmers for supply, has increased five times, but MSP, the amount mills get by selling sugar, has gone up just once.
“Amitbhai assured me that a decision to increase the MSP will be taken in a week. Farmers from the cane-producing belt will get more price for their supply, and mills will be in a good position to pay them. I run two sugar factories and am able to give the highest price to farmers,” Pawar added.
He said that the September instalment of Rs 1,500 to women under the yojana will be deposited on Sunday. Women who have enrolled but have not received money for July, August and September will get Rs 4,500 in the next five days. He added that if the Centre and state govts are compatible, states can get funds for development. “Look at Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. Chandrababu joined NDA and he got funds for his state. So did Bihar. People want development. If you elect Maha Vikas Aghadi, their leaders will always be at loggerheads with the Centre and no development will take place,” he said.
