China Fines Seven Companies Over Tainted Cooking Oil Scandal
China has fined seven companies a total of 11 million yuan ($1.5 million) over a cooking oil scandal that sparked nationwide food safety concerns. The scandal involved edible oil being transported in trucks previously used for coal oil, which were not properly cleaned. Sinograin, a unit of the state grain stockpiler China Grain Reserves Corp., received the largest fine of 2.86 million yuan.
