China’s total grain production in 2025 reached 714.88 mln tons
China posted a record 2025 grain harvest of 714.9 million tonnes, up 1.2% year on year, led by higher corn, rice and soybean output. Livestock production exceeded 100 million tonnes for the first time, driven by gains in pork and poultry, while mutton and egg output declined.
Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on January 19 show that China achieved a record grain harvest in 2025, with livestock production showing steady growth.
The country’s total grain production for the year reached 714.88 million tons, up 8.38 million tons or 1.2% from the previous year. Specifically, summer grain production totaled 149.75 million tons, down 0.1%; early rice production totaled 28.51 million tons, up 1.2%; and autumn grain production totaled 536.62 million tons, up 1.5%. By crop type: wheat production reached 140.07 million tons, remaining virtually unchanged; corn production totaled 301.24 million tons, up 2.1%; Rice production amounted to 209.04 million tons, an increase of 0.7%; soybean production amounted to 20.91 million tons, an increase of 1.3%.
Annual production of pig, cattle, sheep, and poultry meat reached 100.72 million tons, an increase of 4.2% compared to the previous year and exceeding 100 million tons for the first time. Specifically, pork production reached 59.38 million tons, an increase of 4.1%; beef production – 8.01 million tons, an increase of 2.8%; mutton production – 4.96 million tons, a decrease of 4.2%; and poultry production – 28.37 million tons, an increase of 6.7%. Milk production amounted to 40.91 million tons, an increase of 0.3%. Egg production fell to 34.98 million tons, down 2.5%. The number of pigs slaughtered reached 719.73 million, up 2.4% year-on-year. The pig population at the end of the year totaled 429.67 million, up 0.5%.
