Clear pending sugarcane bills: Former min to factory
Former minister Shashikant Naik has demanded that Hiranyakeshi Sugars in Sankeshwar clear Rs 86 crore in pending payments to farmers. The factory, under former MP Ramesh Katti, has delayed payments for five months. With the new sugarcane season beginning in June, immediate payment is crucial for agricultural activities. Naik warned of potential farmer protests if the dues are not settled soon.
Belagavi: Former minister Shashikant Naik demanded the management of Hiranyakeshi Sugars in Sankeshwar to clear the farmers’ pending bills. According to Naik, the factory has kept payments of Rs 86 crore pending for the past five months. Shashikant Naik stated in a press release that Hiranyakeshi Sugars in Sankeshwar has arrears of Rs 86 crore from farmers who have supplied sugarcane to the factory since December.
In June, sugarcane season begins again. Money is needed for agricultural activities and to buy seed fertilizer for sowing sugarcane. To avoid interruptions, the district administration has ordered the sugar industry to pay the arrears immediately.
Hiranyakeshi Sugar industry is now under the charge of former MP Ramesh Katti, the president of DCC Bank. Hence, a decision should be taken to pay the dues of farmers as soon as possible, he urged.
“Hiranyakeshi Sugars is a proud cooperative enterprise founded by the late Appanagouda Patil. Recently, this industry has caused inconvenience by keeping the dues of sugarcane bills, even though it has never kept the dues of farmers who have supplied sugarcane. Farmers will likely protest if the factory management doesn’t wake up soon,” he warned.
