Cold weather condition likely to boost wheat yield
Indore: The change in weather condition and rainfall in
November are likely to boost
and productivity of wheat crop in Madhya Pradesh.
Farmers in Madhya Pradesh have completed more than
60-70 per cent sowing and the cold weather will benefit
both early and late sown wheat crop.
Indore ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute region
station principal scientist and head KC Sharma said,
“Wheat production may go up this season on better yields
as the temperature has dropped following rains in
November and this will boost the development of the crop.
If the weather condition continues to remain favourable
this may help increase the per hectare yield of the crop.”
The average per hectare yield of wheat in Madhya Pradesh
is 3.5 tonne per hectare while productivity in the leading
wheat producing states Haryana and Punjab is around 4.5-
5 tonne per hectare, said the research institute.
Wheat, chana and peas are major winter sown crops of
Indore division. Winter crops are expected to cover more
than 16.5 lakh hectare in Indore division. Farmers in
Indore and Ujjain districts are expected to sow wheat on
more than 11 lakh hectare this season, according to the
state farm department
A dip in day and night temperatures supports the growth
of the crop, according to ICAR- Indian Agricultural
Research Institute regional station.
