According to a survey, maize production in India is predicted to expand at a CAGR of 1.34 percent, slower than consumption, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.82 percent over 2021-31. Furthermore, the percentage of maize used in animal feed is predicted to increase from 51% to 54% by 2031, thus shifting the focus to genetically modified crops.

According to a study paper issued on April 18 by YES Bank and FICCI, the country’s annual maize consumption would be 29.66 million tonnes (mt) in 2021.

Maize is utilised for 29 percent of overall consumption, with biofuel generation accounting for 1.4 percent. According to the analysis, food’s percentage of overall consumption would fall to 25% by 2031. “If the government continues to implement positive policy changes with respect to ethanol blending, the usage of maize for biofuel production could also increase,” it stated, forecasting a 4.5 percent share of consumption for biofuel by 2031.
