Cooperation Minister exhorts farmers to increase cane cultivation area
Haryana’s Cooperation Minister, Arvind Sharma, urged farmers to expand sugarcane cultivation to boost income and enhance soil fertility. Speaking at the inauguration of the 34th crushing season of the Kaithal Cooperative Sugar Mill, Sharma highlighted Haryana’s leadership in providing the highest sugarcane prices and announced a comprehensive development plan for the 2025-26 season, ensuring timely payments and support for farmers.
Cooperation, Tourism and Jails Minister Arvind Sharma emphasised the commitment of the central and state governments towards the welfare of farmers and exhorted them to increase the area under sugarcane and improve productivity. “Those who have stopped growing sugarcane should reconsider its cultivation. It not only boosts income but also enhances soil fertility,” said Sharma, while speaking at the inauguration of the 34th crushing season of the Kaithal Cooperative Sugar Mill via a video conference.
Sharma highlighted that Haryana was the first state in the country to provide farmers the highest price for sugarcane.
“The sugar mill has prepared a comprehensive Sugarcane Development Plan for the 2025-26 season to offer various facilities to farmers. Efforts will be made to ensure that sugarcane farmers face no difficulties and timely payments are made to them,” he said.
The inaugural event began with a ceremonial havan, followed by guests, including Haryana State Co-operative Sugar Mills Ltd. chairman Dharambir Singh Dagar, Pundri MLA Satpal Jamba, Sugar Mill chairperson and Deputy Commissioner Preeti, starting the crushing season by putting sugarcane into the machines.
“The government is committed to the welfare of all sections of society. Every stalk of sugarcane in farmers’ fields will be procured,” he claimed.
