CSA scientists develop new wheat, mustard varieties
Scientists at CSA University, Kanpur, have developed two wheat varieties, K-1910 and K-1905, suited for alkaline soils, timely sowing and high rust resistance. They mature in 125–130 days with yields of 35–40 quintals per hectare. A new mustard variety, Azad Gaurav, offers heat tolerance, late-sowing suitability and high oil content.
Kanpur: Scientists from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, developed new wheat varieties for timely sowing under irrigated conditions in alkaline soils, and a mustard variety recommended for late sowing across Uttar Pradesh. In the State Seed Release Committee meeting held at Krishi Bhawan, Lucknow, on Tuesday, 3 CSA varieties were given the green signal. RK Yadav, Somveer Singh, PK Gupta, Vijay Kumar Yadav, and Jyotsna played key roles in developing these varieties. University vice chancellor K Vijayendra Pandiyan congratulated the scientists who developed these varieties.CSA director research RK Yadav said that university scientists developed wheat varieties K-1910 and K-1905.
He said these varieties gave good yields in alkaline soils and were resistant to brown, yellow, and black rust. They were less affected by insect attacks and matured in 125 to 130 days, yeilding an average of 35 to 40 quintals per hectare.University scientist Mahak Singh explained the mustard variety ‘Azad Gaurav’, stating that its plants were not affected by high temperatures and it was recommended for late sowing across the entire Uttar Pradesh. Singh said this variety matured in 120 to 125 days and gave an average yield of 18 to 19 quintals per hectare. He said it was disease-resistant and less affected by insects. He said it had a large grain size with an oil content of 39.6%.
