Mysuru: Urging the Congress party to focus on the farmers’ issues, Karnataka State Farmers Association president Kurubur Shanthakumar demanded that the party should not induct sugar factory owners, who are elected to the assembly, in the Congress government.

“The interest of 30 lakh sugarcane growers in Karnataka is not protected, because the sugar factory owners are not adhering to the directions of the government.

Congress must take it seriously,” he told reporters here on Sunday.

Shanthakumar claimed that the BJP government lost the faith of the people and its power, due to their anti-farmer policies.

“The Congress government should take up farmers’ issues on priority,” he said.

Shanthakumar urged the Congress government to repeal the APMC Amendment Act, and urged to provide minimum support price for agricultural produce.
