Kanpur: ‘World Earth Day’ was celebrated at National Sugar Institute (NSI). On this occasion, tree plantation was also taken up around various hostels by the staff and students.
“It is our duty to save our mother earth by not undertaking any such activity which may harm environment which ultimately would adversely affect the all of us. We have to take a pledge for, planting more trees, saving water, reducing and recycling waste,” said Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute.
Sugar industry can be a potential source for green energy and water also, the two utilities which are of immense importance for the environment. Green energy from sugar industry through ethanol, biomass based co-generation and filter cake based compressed bio-gas will surely help in reducing dependency on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions, said SI Director.
“The water available in sugarcane which is extracted during processing is being reused and recycled to a greater extent now”, he added. “Effective waste management and its conversion to value added products may not only help in saving our earth but also enhance income of the sugar and ethanol units. This is also an important aspect on which institute and industry is working together”, said Anup Kanaujia, Assistant Professor Sugar Engineering.
