Edible oil prices jump by up to Tk13 per litre
Edible oil prices in Bangladesh have risen by Tk6–Tk13 per litre, adding pressure on household budgets. Bottled soybean oil now costs Tk195 per litre and five litres Tk945, while loose soybean oil is Tk177 and loose palm oil Tk163. The hike follows international market trends, says the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners Association.
Prices of edible oil have gone up in the local market, with an increase ranging from Tk6 to Tk13 per litre, adding further pressure on household budgets amid rising living costs.
The new prices will take effect tomorrow, according to a press release issued today by the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association.
The association said the price hike was prompted by rising prices in the international market.
According to the release, the price of a one-litre bottle of soybean oil has been set at Tk195, while a five-litre bottle will now cost Tk945 — up by Tk25 from the previous rate. The price of bottled soybean oil has risen by Tk6 per litre, and palm oil by Tk13 per litre.
Loose soybean oil will be sold at Tk177 per litre, and loose palm oil at Tk163 per litre.
Previously, bottled soybean oil was priced at Tk189 per litre, loose soybean oil at Tk174, and palm oil at Tk150 per litre.
The association said the new rates were fixed after consultations with the Ministry of Commerce to align with international market trends.
Earlier, on 13 April, the government raised the price of soybean oil to Tk189 per litre, an increase of Tk14, and palm oil to Tk169 per litre, an increase of Tk12.
