Efforts are underway to set up new sugar mill in Bareilly: Minister


Bareilly: Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi said 85% of sugarcane payments—₹29,903 crore—have been made to farmers. Speaking at a Kharif productivity seminar, he announced plans for a new sugar mill in Bareilly. Crop yields, especially sugarcane, pulses, and oilseeds, have risen. Groundnut and moong procurement will begin this year to further support farmers.
Bareilly: Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, said that 85% of sugarcane payments have already been made to farmers, and efforts are underway to set up a new sugar mill in Bareilly, reported Amar Ujala.
He was speaking at a joint seminar on Kharif crop productivity for the Bareilly and Moradabad divisions that was held on Monday at the auditorium of Government Inter College in Bareilly.
The event brought together government officials, agricultural experts, and farmers to discuss crop production and development initiatives.
The minister also mentioned that production of several crops, including pulses and oilseeds, has significantly increased. This year, the government will begin procurement of groundnut and moong from farmers.
To support the event, various government departments set up stalls to provide farmers with information on schemes and services. The Agriculture Minister, along with Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Ravindra Kumar, inspected these stalls.
Highlighting the state’s agricultural achievements, the minister said that crop yields have risen notably. Sugarcane productivity, which used to be below 600 quintals per hectare, has now reached nearly 828 quintals. He added that 121 sugar mills are currently operational in Uttar Pradesh, 10 of which have been revived in recent years.
As of May 25 this year, sugarcane purchases worth ₹34,892 crore have been made, with ₹29,903 crore — around 85% — already paid to farmers, Shahi informed. While paddy cultivation has seen a decline in the Bareilly division, mustard production has increased.
Minister of State for Agriculture Baldev Singh Aulakh also addressed the gathering and interacted with farmers. Bareilly Commissioner Saumya Agarwal, District Magistrate Avinash Singh, Moradabad Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh, and several other officials attended the event.
