Egypt’s Supply Minister Sherif Farouk met SIIC chair Salah Fathy to review performance and modernization plans for the state-owned sugar producer. The focus is on upgrading cane and beet processing lines to raise capacity, improve quality, cut waste, and meet domestic sugar demand. Farouk said developing food industry firms, led by SIIC, is key to balancing production and imports and strengthening food security. The meeting also addressed sustainability and environmental compliance.

Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, has met with Salah Fathy, Chairperson of the state-owned Sugar and Integrated Industries Company (SIIC), to review the company’s performance and future development plans, reports Daily News Egypt.

The meeting, held as part of the ministry’s oversight of its affiliated companies, focused on strengthening Egypt’s strategic food industries, the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Discussions centered on plans to modernise and upgrade SIIC’s production lines, which process both sugarcane and sugar beet. The aim is to boost efficiency, improve product quality, raise production capacity to meet domestic demand for both subsidised and market-priced sugar, and minimise waste.

“The development of food industry companies, led by the sugar company, is a top priority to support the local market’s needs for basic commodities and achieve a balance between local production and imports, which contributes to enhancing the state’s food security,” Farouk said.

The talks also covered SIIC’s efforts to meet environmental standards and apply sustainability measures in its production processes.

The deputy minister of supply, the CEO of the Holding Company for Food Industries, and the ministry’s spokesperson were also present at the meeting.
