EIA: Ethanol Production Down 2%, Stocks Down 5%, Exports Up 131%
Fuel ethanol production in the United States dipped by 2% in the week ending May 3, reaching an average of 965,000 barrels per day. However, exports surged by 131%, hitting 180,000 barrels per day. Stocks of fuel ethanol also saw a significant decline, dropping more than 5% to 24.2 million barrels. No fuel ethanol imports were reported for the same period.
U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by 2% the week ending May 3, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on May 8. Stocks of fuel ethanol fell more than 5% while exports were up 131%.
Fuel ethanol production averaged 965,000 barrels per day the week ending May 3, down 22,000 barrels per day when compared to the 987,000 barrels per day of production reported for the previous week. Production for the same week of last year also averaged 965,000 barrels per day.
Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol fell to 24.2 million barrels the week ending May 3, down 1.288 million barrels when compared to the 25.488 million barrels of stocks reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, stocks for the week ending May 3 were up 909,000 barrels.
Exports of fuel ethanol averaged 180,000 barrels per day the week ending May 3, up 102,000 barrels per day when compared to the 78,000 barrels per day of exports reported for the previous week. Data on weekly ethanol exports is not available for the corresponding week of 2023 as the EIA began reporting weekly data on fuel ethanol exports in June 2023. No fuel ethanol imports were reported for the week ending May 3.
