EIA: Ethanol Production Down 6%, Stocks Up 2%

U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by nearly 6 percent the week ending Sept. 15, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Sept. 20. Fuel ethanol stocks were up 2 percent and exports were up 60 percent.
Fuel ethanol production averaged 980,000 barrels per day the week ending Sept. 15, down 59,000 barrels per day when compared to the 1.039 million barrels per day of production reported for the previous week and the lowest level of production reported since early May. When compared to the same week of last year, production for the week ending Sept. 15 was up 79,000 barrels per day.
Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol expanded to 21.681 million barrels the week ending Sept. 15, up 510,000 barrels when compared to the 21.171 million barrels of stocks reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, stocks for the week ending Sept. 15 were down 820,000 barrels.
Fuel ethanol exports averaged 109,000 barrels per day the week ending Sept. 15, up 41,000 barrels per day when compared to the 68,000 barrels per day of exports reported for the previous week. Data on weekly ethanol exports is not available for the corresponding week of 2022 as the EIA began reporting weekly data on fuel ethanol exports in June 2023. Fuel ethanol imports were at 20,000 barrels per day during the week ending Sept. 15.
