EIA: Ethanol production up 4%, stocks up 2%

U.S. fuel ethanol production expanded by nearly 4 percent the week ending July 14, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on July 19. Stocks of fuel ethanol were up 2 percent while exports were up 69 percent.

Fuel ethanol production for the week ending July 14 averaged 1.07 million barrels per day, up 38,000 barrels per day when compared to 1.032 million barrels per day of production reported for the previous week, and the highest level of production since December 2022. When compared to the same week of last year, production for the week ending July 14 was up 36,000 barrels per day. 

Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol reached 23.166 million barrels the week ending July 14, up 508,000 barrels when compared to the 22.658 million barrels of stocks reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, stocks for the week ending July 14 were down 387,000 barrels. 

U.S. fuel ethanol exports averaged 86,000 barrels per day the week ending July 14, up 35,000 barrels per day when compared to the 51,000 barrels per day of exported reported for the previous week. Data on weekly ethanol exports is not available for the corresponding week of 2022 as the EIA began reporting weekly data on fuel ethanol exports in June 2023. According to EIA data, no fuel ethanol imports were reported for the week ending July 14.
