EIA maintains 2024, 2025 fuel ethanol production, blending forecasts

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has kept its forecasts for 2024 and 2025 fuel ethanol production unchanged. The EIA predicts production will average 1.03 million barrels per day in 2024, dropping to 1.02 million barrels per day in 2025. In 2023, production averaged 1.02 million barrels per day. Quarterly projections for 2024 include 1.03 million barrels per day in Q3 and 1.02 million barrels per day in Q4.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration maintained its forecasts for 2024 and 2025 fuel ethanol production in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released on Aug. 6. The outlook for fuel ethanol blending was also unchanged. 

The EIA currently predicts fuel ethanol production will average 1.03 million barrels per day this year, falling to 1.02 million barrels per day next year. Fuel ethanol production averaged 1.02 million barrels per day in 2023.

On a quarterly basis, fuel ethanol production is expected to average 1.03 million barrels per day in the third quarter of 2024, falling to 1.02 million barrels per day in the fourth quarter. Moving into 2025, fuel ethanol production is expected to average 1.02 million barrels per day in the first, second and third quarters, expanding to 1.04 million barrels per day in the fourth quarter. 

Fuel ethanol blending is expected to average 930,000 barrels per day in 2024 and 2025. Fuel ethanol blending also averaged 930,000 barrels per day last year.
