Emerson and RED to drive innovation in India’s compressed biogas industry

Emerson and REnergy Dynamics (RED) have signed an exclusive agreement to enhance automation solutions for Compressed Biogas (CBG) projects in India. This partnership aims to boost the bioenergy sector, projected to grow from $1.47 billion to $2.25 billion by 2029. The collaboration focuses on improving productivity and efficiency while supporting India’s carbon-neutral goals and clean energy demands.

Emerson and REnergy Dynamics (RED) have signed an exclusive distributorship agreement to provide significant automation solutions for Compressed Biogas (CBG) projects in India. By bringing innovative machinery and high-accuracy flow measurement technologies, this strategic partnership is expected to significantly develop India’s bioenergy industry.

By 2029, the biogas industry in India is projected to have grown from its present valuation of around $1.47 billion to $2.25 billion, with a cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.3 per cent. Over the next five years, RED anticipates substantial commercial opportunities in this industry, especially with automation added on top.

Customers will be able to increase productivity and efficiency at every step of the CBG production process by incorporating these flow measuring tools into their projects, according to Kushagra Nandan, Chairman and Managing Director of RED.

The development of company-owned large-scale bioenergy projects; engineering, procurement, and construction services to renewable energy developers; feedstock aggregation and its supply to CBG projects; and the production and marketing of CBG plant components are the four focus areas that the agreement is well aligned with, he added.

Bioenergy, a critical component of the country’s ambitious carbon-neutral goals, requires precision at every step to monitor and control the production and delivery of CBG. Automation can usher in significant value addition at each stage of a CBG project and help unleash the full potential of bioenergy in meeting the growing demand for clean energy in India.

Environmental sustainability is a commercial need for Emerson and its value chain partners, including suppliers, customers, workers, and communities, according to Anil Bhatia, vice president and managing director of Emerson’s operations in India.

The CEO of RED, Varun Karad, also stated that the company is thrilled to work with Emerson in India to develop PLC-based automation and instrumentation for Indian bioenergy projects, providing substantial benefits across the intricate process of creating, storing, and distributing CBG. By increasing efficiency and decreasing downtime, the process optimisation will help minimise costly operational losses, guarantee consistent quality, raise productivity, and improve safety.
