Ensure DAP for wheat, farmers urge govt

At a recent Bhartiya Kissan Union (Kadian) meeting in Ludhiana, farmers, led by Harmeet Singh Kadian, urged the government to ensure sufficient availability of DAP fertilizer as wheat sowing approaches. They also raised concerns about the sale of late paddy varieties like PR126, which has fewer buyers despite being promoted by the government for its short duration. The union emphasized the need to prevent fake fertilizers and urged government action to support farmers in selling their paddy.

The Bhartiya Kissan Union (Kadian) today demanded that the government ensure enough availability of DAP fertiliser and find buyers of late varieties of paddy. The demand was raised at a monthly meeting of the BKU (Kadian) held here under the presidentship of Harmeet Singh Kadian.

Addressing the meeting, Kadian said that farmers were facing great difficulty due to a shortage of DAP fertiliser and the government should ensure it is available as the wheat sowing season was approaching.

“It has been observed in the past that fake DAP fertiliser was being sold in the market. Keeping this in view, the government should consider sampling the fertiliser so that fake product is not circulated,” he said.

Kadian further said that paddy produce had started arriving in the market but there were few takers. “The government itself had advocated sowing of PR126 variety as it is of short duration and takes less time. The government should now take initiatives for its sale so that it is not left without buyers in the market,” he demanded.
