ESY 2024–25: Around 820 crore liters of ethanol supplied during Nov 24–Aug 25

India has achieved 20% ethanol blending in petrol in 2025, five years ahead of target, reducing crude oil imports and saving foreign exchange. In ESY 2024–25, OMCs procured 820.52 crore litres, with 526.01 crore from grains and 294.51 crore from sugar. Government permits unrestricted sugarcane-based ethanol output for 2025–26.
India is making significant progress in its Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, with a marked increase in both ethanol production and blending rates.
According to the sources, during the current Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024–25, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) received 820.52 crore litres of ethanol during November–August period.
So far in ESY 2024–25, ethanol supply from grains stands at 526.01 crore litres, while supply from sugar-based feedstocks stands at 294.51 crore litres.

India has successfully achieved 20% ethanol blending in petrol in 2025, five years ahead of its target, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Puri recently announced.
This remarkable growth has helped reduce the country’s dependence on imported crude oil, leading to a significant saving in foreign exchange.
In a relief for ethanol producers, the Indian government has permitted sugar mills and distilleries to produce ethanol from sugarcane juice, sugar syrup, B-heavy molasses (BHM), and C-heavy molasses (CHM) during the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2025-26 without any restrictions.
DFPD, in coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), will periodically review the diversion of sugar to ethanol production vis-a-vis production of sugar in the country so that availability of sugar for domestic consumption is ensured throughout the year.
