ESY 2024-25: Average ethanol blending from November 2024 to May 2025 at 18.8 per cent
India achieved 19.8% ethanol blending in petrol in May under the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme. Cumulative blending averaged 18.8% from November 2024 to May 2025, with over 572 crore litres supplied. Ethanol capacity has quadrupled to 1,810 crore litres in 11 years, driven by supportive policies and increased production.
India is making significant progress in its Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme as it ramps up ethanol production.
In the current Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024-25, ethanol blending in petrol reached 19.8 per cent in May, while the cumulative average ethanol blending from November 2024 to May 2025 stood at 18.8 per cent.
Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) received 92.5 crore liters of ethanol under the EBP program in May 2025, bringing the cumulative total to 550.0 crore liters from November 2024 to May 2025.
According to official data, the ethanol blended under the EBP program in May 2025 totaled 95.1 crore liters, bringing the total to 572.1 crore liters from November 2024 to May 2025.
As per the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), under the EBP Programme, ethanol supplies have increased from 38 crore liters in ESY 2013-14 to 707.4 crore liters in ESY 2023-24, achieving an average blending of 14.6 per cent ethanol in petrol.
India’s ethanol production capacity has seen a significant rise, growing more than fourfold in the past 11 years under the Modi government, reaching an annual capacity of 1,810 crore litres. This surge has been driven by favorable policy measures, according to a senior government official.
