Ethanol boost: BPCL’s E20 network expands to 4,279 fuel stations

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) expands its E20 fuel network to 4,279 stations, covering 18% of its total strength. E20, a 20% ethanol-blended petrol, supports India’s transition to a greener future. The government aims to make E20 available nationwide by 2025, reducing import dependency and promoting environmental benefits. Current ethanol blending in petrol reaches 15.8%.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is leaving no stone unturned to expand its E20 fuel offerings. E20 (20% ethanol blended) petrol is a mixture of 20% anhydrous ethanol with 80% motor gasoline fuel volume by volume.

BPCL’s E20 network expands to 4,279 fuel stations, covering 18% of company’s total strength, driving India’s journey towards a greener future.

The government is actively promoting biofuels to achieve several key objectives, including reducing import dependency, creating jobs, offering better remuneration to farmers, providing environmental benefits, and enhancing waste management practices. Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) began selling E20 petrol in 2023. According to the government, E20 will cover the entire country by 2025.

According to available official data, as of September 1, 2024, 16,059 PSU outlets out of a total of 82,617 PSU retail outlets are dispensing E20 ethanol-blended motor spirit.

In August, ethanol blending in petrol reached 15.8%, and cumulative ethanol blending from November 2023 to August 2024 reached 13.6%.
