Ethanol Production Facility Inaugurated in Karnataka’s Haveri District

Prabhriti Ethanol Pvt Ltd has inaugurated an ethanol facility in Negaluru, Haveri district, with former CM Basavaraj Bommai hailing it as a “boon for farmers.” The maize, rice, and sugarcane-based plant, set up by eight young entrepreneurs, aims to boost farmer incomes and strengthen India’s green energy drive.
An ethanol facility by Prabhriti Ethanol Private Limited has been inaugurated in Negaluru village, Haveri district, marking a significant milestone in India’s green energy journey. Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai presided over the inauguration, calling the project a “boon to farmers” and a major step toward sustainable fuel solutions.
A Boon for Farmers and the Local Economy
Addressing the gathering, Bommai highlighted the factory’s potential to transform the agricultural economy of the region. “Nearly 90% of farmers in Hirekerur, Byadagi, Ranebennur, and Haveri taluks grow maize. With factories like this, their hard work can be turned into real wealth,” he said. Bommai compared this development to the economic benefits sugar factories once brought to farmers on the banks of the Krishna River.
Strengthening India’s Green Energy Drive
The former CM stressed that ethanol production is critical to India’s push for eco-friendly fuel. He noted that Brazil had adopted ethanol technology long ago and built a robust economy around sugarcane-based industries, while Karnataka was among the first states in India to embrace this transition.
A Project by Young Entrepreneurs
As reported by agriinsite.com, the facility has been set up by eight young entrepreneurs, demonstrating a strong entrepreneurial spirit in the region. The plant will use maize, rice, and sugarcane to produce ethanol, ensuring fair prices for local farmers, especially maize growers. “This project not only supports farmer incomes but also positions India as a future exporter of green energy,” Bommai said. “Haveri should be at the forefront of this achievement.”
