EU increased grain exports by 14% this season

EU grain exports reached 17.06 million tons between July 1 and December 2, 2025, up 14 percent year on year. Soft wheat exports fell 5 percent, while durum wheat and barley shipments surged. Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Nigeria, and Jordan were key soft wheat buyers; Saudi Arabia and China led barley purchases.

During the twenty-two weeks of the current season, which began on July 1, 2025, EU countries exported 17.1 million tons of grain and grain products, 14% more than during the same period in the 2024/2025 season, according to the Zerno On-Line agency, citing the European Commission.

The main export destinations for European soft wheat this season were Morocco (1,744,400 tonnes), Saudi Arabia (765,100 tonnes), Egypt (553,700 tonnes), Nigeria (500,100 tonnes), and Jordan (481,900 tonnes).

The largest barley buyers were Saudi Arabia (971,000 tonnes), China (879,800 tonnes), Jordan (521,800 tonnes), and Turkey (392,900 tonnes).

*French export data for the 2024 calendar year is incomplete. Bulgarian and Irish export data for the 2023/24 season is incomplete. Export data from Poland is unavailable since October 2025. The European Commission is currently investigating the reasons for the unusually high volumes of Romanian durum wheat exports in the 2025/26 season.
