European Commission cuts corn harvest forecast, slightly raises wheat forecast
The European Commission cut its 2025–26 EU corn output forecast to 57.6 MT, 3.4% below last year, and raised import estimates to 18.8 MT. Soft wheat production rose to 128.1 MT, 14.7% higher than last season, with exports unchanged at 29.8 MT. Carry-over stocks are now projected at 7.6 MT.
The European Commission has significantly reduced its estimate of corn production in the EU countries in the 2025-2026 season — from 60.1 to 57.6 million tonnes. The new forecast figure is 3.4% lower than last year, Reuters writes, citing supply and demand estimates.
Corn imports are expected to be 18.8 million tonnes, compared to last month’s estimate of 18.3 million tonnes. In the 2024-2025 season, imports amounted to 20 million tonnes.
The forecast for soft wheat production in the bloc’s countries in the 2025-2026 season has been increased from 127.3 to 128.1 million tonnes. The new forecast figure is 14.7% higher than last season. The export estimate has not changed — 29.8 million tonnes.
Carry-over stocks at the end of the 2025-2026 agricultural year were estimated at 7.6 million tonnes, compared to 7.1 million tonnes in the July report.
