FCI to start auction of wheat in Bengal in Aug
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) will auction wheat in Bengal this month via the m-junction platform under the open market sale scheme (OMSS). A tentative 1,448 tonnes of rice will be sold in Sikkim. Sanjay Biswas, FCI’s deputy general manager in Kolkata, noted that while Bengal’s rice production is abundant, the auction focuses on wheat due to high demand. Last fiscal, 7 lakh tonnes of wheat were sold in Bengal under OMSS.
Kolkata: Food Corporation of India (FCI) will begin wheat auction in Bengal this month under the open market sale scheme (OMSS), officials said in Kolkata on Tuesday. The e-auction will take place on the m-junction platform.FCI will start selling a tentative 1,448 tonnes of rice in Sikkim on Wednesday under OMSS.Sanjay Biswas, deputy general manager (Kolkata) of FCI, said: “In Bengal, rice is produced in abundance.Hence, we don’t need to auction this foodgrain here. If the necessity arises, we will take the matter up with state govt and do the needful. But the demand for wheat is high in this state, so we auction and sell the buffer stocks of Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.
