Fiji : Sweet start, sugar crush jumps 18% so far when compared to same period 2024
Fiji’s sugar mills have crushed 164,807 tonnes of cane as of July 7, an 18.5% increase from last year. Minister Charan Jeath Singh praised mill performance and affirmed confidence in the Fiji Sugar Corporation. He plans visits to farming communities to discuss grants and urged continued stakeholder cooperation for efficient harvesting and cane delivery.

Fiji’s three sugar mills have collectively processed 164,807 tonnes of cane as of July 7.
This compares to 139,059 tonnes crushed during the same period in 2024.
“The mills are running well. Although we may face some minor disruptions between now and the end of the season, I am confident that the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has a capable team in place to manage any challenges that arise,” said Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh.
“An 18.5% increase in cane crushed early in the season means more income flowing into cane belt communities and stronger prospects for our sugar exports.”
Following the recent passage of the national budget, Minister Singh announced plans to visit farming communities across Fiji to discuss the effective utilization of grants and subsidies allocated for the sector.
He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among stakeholders to ensure timely harvesting and delivery of cane to the mills.
