First advance estimates: ISMA maintains 2024-25 sugar output
India’s total sugar production for the 2024-25 season is projected at 333 lakh tonnes (LMT), slightly lower than the 340.64 LMT produced in 2023-24, as per the first advance estimates by the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA). The sugar balance for the season suggests sufficient supply to support the Ethanol Blending Program (EBP) and export opportunities, with an estimated 40 LMT diverted for ethanol. The projected closing stock at the end of the season is 87.79 LMT, ensuring stable domestic consumption and financial liquidity for sugar mills.
According to the first advance estimates from the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), India’s total sugar production for the 2024-25 season is expected to remain in line with its preliminary projection of 333 lakh tonnes (LMT) (before diversion), slightly lower than the 340.64 LMT produced in 2023-24. The association emphasized that the country will have an adequate sugar supply to support the ongoing ethanol blending program and enhance export opportunities.
As part of the regular monitoring process, a follow-up satellite imagery was taken in the third week of October 2024, and the findings were reviewed during the Executive Committee meeting held on November 5, 2024. The crop condition in the major sugarcane-producing states looks favourable, and field reports also align with the findings of the satellite mapping report.
