Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi launches online grievance redressal portal for rice millers
On October 27, 2024, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi launched an online grievance redressal portal to support rice millers by resolving issues like transportation costs and procurement delays. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has empowered regional offices to address extra transport charges when designated depots are full after 15 days. Custom updates to the procurement portal have also been made to enhance efficiency. Joshi reaffirmed the government’s goal to meet the 185 lakh metric tonne procurement target for the 2024-25 Kharif season.
Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday, October 27, 2024, announced the launch of an online grievance redressal portal in a bid to address the concerns of rice millers. Designed to streamline the resolution of issues faced by rice millers, the portal will particularly focus on those related to transportation costs and delays in the procurement process.
Minister Joshi highlighted that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has delegated powers to the regional level to manage additional transportation charges incurred by rice millers. This provision will come into effect if there is no available space in designated depots after a waiting period of 15 days.
Additionally, the minister assured that necessary customisations have been made to the procurement portal to address previous concerns. He emphasised that the issue has already been resolved to the satisfaction of the millers.
Regarding procurement targets, Joshi reiterated that the government is committed to fully achieving the 185 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) target set for the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25.
