Four sugar mills in Maharashtra end crushing operations as against 17 in previous season

The ongoing sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra is in full swing with only four sugar mills closed operations so far as of February 15, 2024. In contrast, 17 mills had ended crushing during the same period in the previous season.

However, the current season has witnessed a marginal increase in sugar recovery. According to data from the Sugar Commissionerate, the average sugar recovery rate in the state stood at 9.86% on February 15, 2024, compared to 9.85% during the same period last year.

The four mills that have closed crushing operations this season are located in Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Nanded divisions.

A total of 207 sugar mills, including 103 cooperative and 104 private mills, participated in the crushing season this year. As of February 15, 2024, they have crushed 806.16 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, producing 794.48 lakh quintals (79.44 lakh tonnes) of sugar.

In comparison, 211 mills had participated in the previous season, crushing 880.48 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 866.85 lakh quintals of sugar.
